Start in a corner away from the attic hatch and fit the roll insulation between the joists facing against the drywall. Overlap the sheets by 8 to 10 inches. For rolled insulation place it between roof rafters. 2 snap a chalk line between the length measurements.

With a helper to load the blower with insulation as needed start at the perimeter of the attic and work toward the attic access door. Find a pre screened local home insulation contractor. Staple sheets of 6 mil plastic over unfaced insulation to create a vapor barrier. Use 3 8 inch heavy duty staples every six inches.

Fill every joist space completely and evenly with the insulation leaving attic vents uncovered.

If your house doesn t already have a layer of insulation between the joists you ll need to install one before adding a layer over the joists. Attach the insulation to the rafter scab board by the paper flange so as not to compress the fiberglass. Replace the floorboards and then spray more insulation on top of it.
